Top 10 Exciting Announcements from MWC 2026 You Might Have Missed

Barcelona, March 16: This year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) was filled with announcements from major tech and hardware brands. As always, the spotlight was on high-profile devices, including foldables and innovative camera technologies. However, some of the most intriguing developments often get overshadowed. Here are ten noteworthy announcements from MWC 2026 that you may have overlooked.

Motorola × GrapheneOS

One of the most unexpected announcements came from Motorola and GrapheneOS. Previously, GrapheneOS, a secure, Google-free version of Android, was exclusive to Google Pixel phones. This changed at MWC 2026.

Motorola has signed a long-term agreement with the GrapheneOS Foundation to integrate the OS into future Motorola devices. The first compatible models will likely be based on the Signature, Razr Fold, or Razr Ultra lines, utilizing a forthcoming Qualcomm SPU, with a target release in 2027.

Moreover, select GrapheneOS security features will be available for existing Motorola phones. A new “Private Image Data” tool will automatically remove location data and device metadata from photos before they are shared. Lenovo’s ThinkShield enterprise security framework will support these features.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X105

Qualcomm had a busy presence at MWC, unveiling several new products, including the Snapdragon X105 modem designed for the next generation of Android flagship devices.

The X105 is 15% smaller than its predecessor and 30% more energy-efficient, with built-in support for AI tasks. It also integrates Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS in a single package.

The standout feature is satellite connectivity, which now supports emergency video calls in addition to text and voice. The modem can also predict RF conditions using sensing software to maintain a stable connection.

Lenovo AI Workmate

Lenovo showcased several concepts at MWC, but the AI Workmate stood out as one of the most innovative. This motorized desktop robot arm features sensors and a projector head that displays interactive notifications and tools directly on your desk.

Additionally, it has expressive animated eyes, which may be charming or unsettling, depending on your perspective. Lenovo also introduced an AI Work Companion Concept, a smart display and clock that syncs tasks across devices to help organize your day.

Lenovo has a strong track record of turning MWC concepts into market-ready products, so we hope to see the AI Workmate in the ThinkSmart lineup by 2028.

Starlink Becomes “Starlink Mobile”

SpaceX made headlines at MWC with a keynote presentation announcing the rebranding of their direct-to-device service to “Starlink Mobile.”

The company also revealed details about the V2 constellation, which aims to deliver mobile data speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s using globally harmonized S-band spectrum, representing a 100-fold increase in data density over the current fleet.

Starlink Mobile is currently operational in 32 countries with 10 million monthly active users, aiming for 25 million by the end of 2026.

Deutsche Telekom × Starlink

Deutsche Telekom announced its partnership with Starlink as the first European carrier for the V2 constellation. The initiative aims to use satellite connectivity to fill coverage gaps that traditional tower infrastructure cannot address, with a planned launch in Germany by 2028.

The service will be designed to work seamlessly with existing Deutsche Telekom SIM cards.

Vodafone × Amazon Kuiper

Amazon Kuiper, Jeff Bezos’s counterpart to Starlink, also made waves at MWC 2026 by partnering with Vodafone to utilize LEO satellites for delivering backhaul capacity to 4G and 5G base stations across Europe and Africa.

With over 200 Kuiper satellites already in orbit, the network can provide download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and upload speeds of 400 Mbps. Rollout will begin in Germany and other European markets in 2026, expanding through Vodafone’s Vodacom subsidiary in Africa.

AMD Ryzen AI 400 Desktop

AMD chose MWC, a mobile-focused event, to unveil its Ryzen AI 400 and Ryzen AI PRO 400 desktop processors. These are the first desktop chips to meet Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC requirements, enabling them to run a full suite of on-device AI features.

Built on Zen 5 architecture, these chips deliver up to 60 TOPS of AI compute, exceeding the 40 TOPS required by Copilot+. The top configurations feature up to 8 cores, a 5.1GHz boost clock, and Radeon 860M integrated graphics. Dell, HP, and Lenovo have confirmed systems using these chips, expected in Q2 2026.

Oukitel WP61 + RG14-P

Oukitel, often overlooked, presented an impressive lineup at MWC, particularly the WP61, which is the first smartphone to combine NTN two-way satellite connectivity, a thermal imaging camera, and a DMR digital walkie-talkie in one device. This innovation targets emergency responders, construction teams, and field workers who typically carry multiple devices.

Additionally, Oukitel announced the RG14-P, a solar-powered laptop featuring an Intel Core 7 150U processor, dual-battery system, and a 14.1-inch touchscreen, designed for use in areas without power outlets. The RT10 Pro industrial tablet, equipped with a built-in projector and a 25,000mAh battery, completes the lineup.

AWS Commits $33 Billion to Spain

Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Affairs Officer, David Zapolsky, announced at MWC that AWS is increasing its infrastructure investment in Spain to $33 billion, up by $18 billion from a previous commitment. The plans include building seven new solar facilities and a manufacturing plant in Aragon to serve as the hub for European server production.

GSMA × ESA

The final announcement was the most forward-looking. The GSMA and the European Space Agency jointly revealed up to €100 million in funding to accelerate the convergence of space infrastructure and terrestrial mobile networks. This funding aims to support projects that integrate LEO satellite capacity with 5G and 6G ground systems, facilitating emergency connectivity and rural coverage.
