Barasat, February 19: A ban on the open sale of meat and fish has been imposed in Bihar, igniting a political firestorm. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her opposition to this decision, aiming to make it a significant issue in the upcoming assembly elections in Bengal.

TMC MLA Narayan Goswami from the Ashoknagar constituency has responded to the ban and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s addition of ‘Swami’ before the name of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. He has targeted the BJP, asserting that this is part of their agenda. “Bengali cuisine consists of fish and rice. The day the BJP comes to Bengal, they will ban meat and rice,” he stated. He accused the BJP of attempting to alter the region’s food culture, emphasizing that Bengalis are intelligent and will teach the BJP a lesson in the elections.

Regarding the Prime Minister’s remarks about Sri Ramakrishna, Goswami noted that it is not surprising. With the assembly elections approaching, Modi and Amit Shah are invoking the names of Bengal’s luminaries. He expressed that they are frustrated with Bengalis because the state often leads in progressive thinking. “Five out of six Nobel laureates in India are from Bengal. There is immense talent here, and they want to suppress it,” he added.

Goswami concluded by stating that if the BJP retains even 50% of its position from 2021, it would be considered a good outcome for them. “No matter how many times they mention Swami Vivekananda, Paramahamsa, or Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, it will not help them,” he remarked.
