Kolkata, April 6: Tensions are escalating in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, ahead of the assembly by-elections. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s National Information and Technology Cell, has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of inciting violence in a serious post on the social media platform ‘X’.
Malviya stated, “Kolkata, once considered a stronghold of the TMC, is now showing signs of fracture, and their desperation is evident. TMC goons attacked the BJP election office located in Paranashree, in the presence of TMC candidate Ratna Chatterjee.”
He expressed astonishment that police were present at the scene but made no attempt to intervene or stop the violence. Malviya alleged that certain elements within the Kolkata police are openly supporting the TMC.
He further wrote, “It is becoming increasingly clear that some elements of the Kolkata police are siding with the TMC. We urge the Election Commission of India to take immediate action and ensure that those responsible for this incident are punished without delay.”
Malviya emphasized that the people of West Bengal deserve law and order, not lawlessness.
The incident occurred in the Behala West assembly constituency, where the BJP had set up its election office. BJP workers claim that TMC goons, acting on the orders of candidate Ratna Chatterjee, vandalized the office and assaulted party activists. The police’s inaction has exacerbated the situation.
The BJP asserts that the TMC’s increasing desperation stems from the rising popularity of the party in Kolkata. Malviya described the incident as a symbol of TMC’s frustration, stating that the ruling party is now trying to cling to power through intimidation.
