Kolkata, March 6: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has announced a three-member delegation that will meet with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Kolkata on Monday.
The delegation includes Mahua Moitra, a Lok Sabha MP from the Krishnanagar constituency in Nadia district, Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam, and Chandrima Bhattacharya, the state finance minister (independent charge) of West Bengal.
An insider from TMC revealed that the delegation will emphasize the demand that the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal should not be announced before the judicial resolution of voter documents classified as ‘logical discrepancies.’
The insider also mentioned that the delegation aims to highlight cases where ‘living’ voters have been marked as ‘dead’ during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state.
The full bench of the Election Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, will arrive in Kolkata on the evening of March 8.
On March 9, the commission will hold meetings with representatives of various registered political parties from 10 AM to 12 PM, giving each party 10 minutes to present their views.
According to sources from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the ruling party TMC is likely to receive the first session in the meeting.
Meanwhile, a significant hearing regarding the ongoing judicial proceedings related to ‘logical discrepancies’ will take place in the Supreme Court on March 10. Initially, over 6 million voter documents were sent for judicial review.
