
Kolkata, June 23: In a significant development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Kanailal Das was arrested on Tuesday following a police raid linked to corruption allegations. Das is recognized as one of the most influential leaders in the Tamluk area.
According to police reports, a recent search of a rented property associated with Das uncovered a large quantity of school uniforms and sarees scattered across various rooms. Investigators also found a substantial number of tarpaulins at another location connected to the case.
Following these discoveries, a police team visited Das’s residence on Tuesday morning. During the search, they questioned him about the presence of these items and why they were being stored there. Officials stated that Das was unable to provide satisfactory answers regarding the items found in the rented house. After the interrogation, he was taken into custody and subsequently arrested.
Local residents noted that Das owns several nursing homes in Tamluk and has previously served as the president of the local nursing home association. They also mentioned that significant organizational and political decisions within the TMC in the area are often made with his counsel.
Recently, Das faced allegations of assaulting a local individual. However, police officials have not yet confirmed whether these allegations were included in the charges filed after his arrest.
Das’s arrest comes at a time when agencies are intensifying actions against public representatives facing accusations of corruption, extortion, and other criminal activities.
