Patna, March 29: Bihar BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi and Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal addressed the media regarding the West Bengal assembly elections and Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. Sarawagi claimed that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is providing protection to illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
Home Minister Amit Shah stated a day earlier that illegal immigrants enter India through Bengal. In response, Sarawagi affirmed, “The Home Minister has accurately described the situation under Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government. The TMC is sheltering illegal immigrants, refugees, and Bangladeshi nationals. These immigrants and Rohingyas are depleting West Bengal’s resources, causing shortages for the local population. The Muslim population in West Bengal is steadily increasing. The entire government is focused on protecting Bangladeshis and illegal immigrants. In the coming days, Mamata Banerjee and the TMC will face the consequences. This time, the BJP will form the government, and Mamata Di will return home.”
Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal added, “The border areas of Bengal previously bordered Pakistan and now connect with West Bengal. The border with Bangladesh stretches from Assam to Bengal. Therefore, fencing the entire area is essential. There are mountains and rivers, making fencing challenging, but illegal immigrants are taking advantage of this. Hence, fencing is crucial for national security.”
It is noteworthy that Union Home Minister Amit Shah released a 35-page ‘white paper’ on Saturday, highlighting the TMC’s 15 years of governance in West Bengal. The report addresses five major issues, including illegal immigration, corruption in the system, institutional weaknesses, economic and industrial decline, and the deterioration of law and order.
The white paper claims that out of the 2,216.7 km long international border with Bangladesh, 569 km remains unfenced. Delays in land acquisition by the state government have hindered this work, facilitating illegal immigration. The document also alleges that the TMC has operated syndicates to provide fake identification to immigrants to create a “vote bank,” impacting national security and demographic balance.
