Tilottama Shome Reflects on Iconic Dialogue from Damini in New Film Ikka

Mumbai, July 15: In Bollywood, certain dialogues become etched in the audience’s memory. One such iconic line is from the film ‘Damini’—“Dhai kilo ka haath.” The moment this dialogue is mentioned, Sunny Deol’s powerful persona comes to mind. However, when an actor gets the chance to deliver this legendary line again, it poses a significant challenge.

Actress Tilottama Shome recently shared her experience of reciting this dialogue in her new film ‘Ikka’ during an interview. She admitted that initially, she hesitated to deliver the line and suggested to the director that it might be better if Sunny Deol himself said it. However, Deol encouraged her, saying she should present it in her own style.

Tilottama stated, “To be honest, when I was on set, I was neither very nervous nor overly excited. I was in a middle ground. I knew this was a very popular dialogue. I even tried to explain to the director that perhaps Sunny Deol should deliver it, but he wasn’t open to that idea.”

She later approached Sunny Deol directly and asked if he would mind another actor delivering his famous dialogue. “I asked Sunny Deol if he had any objections to me saying his well-known line, and he replied, ‘Why would I have an objection? Say it in your own way.’ With such support from Sunny and the rest of the team, I made that dialogue my own. I never attempted to mimic him or outshine him; that thought never crossed my mind.”

Tilottama also shared her experience working with Sunny Deol. She described him as a calm person, much like herself. “People often think that actors are very talkative because they appear on camera, but that’s not always the case,” she noted.

She appreciated Deol’s ability to convey positive energy through his silence. “Sometimes, a person’s quietness can make the atmosphere uncomfortable, but his silence brings comfort to those around him. Whenever we spoke, he was always polite, respectful, and incredibly supportive. He is truly a wonderful person.”

In ‘Ikka’, Tilottama Shome plays the role of Madhura Banerjee, a public prosecutor. She faces off against Sunny Deol’s character, Arjun Mehra, who plays a defense lawyer. This courtroom drama showcases a fierce clash of ideas and arguments between the two characters.

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, ‘Ikka’ features not only Sunny Deol and Tilottama Shome but also Akshay Khanna and Dia Mirza in significant roles. This thrilling film was released on Netflix on July 10.
