Shivamogga witnessed a tragic road accident on Wednesday near Bhartipura Cross, close to Tirthahalli, resulting in the deaths of three people, including two children.
The victims have been identified as 15-year-old Rihan, 9-year-old Rahil, and 76-year-old Fatima, all residents of Sringeri in Chikkamagaluru district. According to the police, the accident occurred due to a head-on collision between a car and a Road Transport Corporation bus. All the deceased were travelling in the car.
Three other passengers in the car sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Initial investigations reveal that six people were in the car, which was returning from a wedding ceremony in Channagiri, Davanagere district.
The bus involved was en route from Mangaluru to Raichur. The collision caused extensive damage to the car and temporarily disrupted traffic in the area. Tirthahalli police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed investigation. Further information is awaited.
Previous Road Accidents in Karnataka
Last week, two separate road accidents in Chitradurga district claimed six lives. In the first incident near Hindaskatte village in Hariyur taluk, a car collided head-on with a truck, killing four young men aged between 21 and 23. In the second accident near Tamatkallu village, a car travelling from Maharashtra to Bengaluru collided with a truck on a bridge, resulting in the death of two people on the spot and injuries to three others.
Additionally, in Bellary district near Devanagar camp, a road accident caused the deaths of three family members, while two others were injured. The mishap reportedly happened after the driver lost control of the car, which then hit a roadside barrier and overturned.
