Greater Noida, May 20: In a significant development, police have arrested a third suspect in the dowry-related death of a woman in the Ecotech-3 area of Greater Noida. The latest arrest involves the deceased’s father-in-law, Vinod.
Previously, police had already detained the victim’s husband, Hrithik, and father-in-law, Manoj, who are now in jail. With this latest arrest, a total of three individuals are now implicated in the case, while authorities continue to search for other suspects.
According to police reports, the case emerged on May 17, 2026, when a married woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Her family accused her in-laws of harassment for dowry and mental torture. Based on their complaint, a case was registered at the Ecotech-3 police station.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, police promptly initiated an investigation, forming multiple teams to apprehend the suspects. On May 20, 2026, with the assistance of local intelligence, police arrested the wanted suspect, Vinod, a resident of Jalapura in the Ecotech-3 area of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Vinod faces charges under Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1961. Earlier, on May 18, police had already arrested the victim’s husband, Hrithik, and father-in-law, Manoj. Officials stated that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly, and efforts to apprehend other wanted suspects are ongoing. Authorities aim to ensure that all involved parties face legal consequences soon.
The victim’s family alleges that this is a case of dowry-related murder, while initial police investigations suggest it may be a suicide stemming from mental stress due to dowry harassment.
Reports indicate that Deepika was married to Hrithik, Manoj’s son, about 14 months ago in a lavish ceremony costing nearly one crore rupees, which included a Fortuner car. Her family claims that since the marriage, Deepika has faced both mental and physical abuse, with her in-laws continuously demanding additional dowry.
The post-mortem report revealed multiple external and internal injuries on Deepika Nagar’s body, including deep wounds down to the bone and a ruptured spleen. Given the numerous injuries found, the local police will compare the post-mortem results with the family’s allegations to reach a conclusion. The autopsy indicated significant trauma, including hematomas and hemorrhaging in the brain, alongside various other injuries.
The report detailed bruising on her right thigh, a deep wound on her left knee, bleeding from her left ear, and deep scratches on her chest and abdomen.
