The Health Risks of Prolonged Sitting in the Office

New Delhi, March 26: In today’s work environment, much of the office work is done seated at a computer for long hours. Sitting for 8-9 hours straight can lead to various health issues.

It is often observed that individuals who work in an office setting tend to have worse digestion compared to others. But why is this the case? There are several reasons, and Ayurveda offers solutions.

With the increase in sedentary work, physical movement has significantly decreased. Many employees eat quickly at their desks or immediately return to their chairs after meals. This lifestyle reduces physical activity, leading to problems like gas, bloating, weight gain, and decreased appetite. Over time, such a lifestyle can slow down digestion, causing food to ferment in the stomach and making the body susceptible to illnesses.

According to Ayurveda, simply eating healthy food is not enough; adopting good habits during meals is also essential. Eating with a calm mind and joy can enhance physical strength while reducing mental disturbances. If you find yourself in a similar office lifestyle, it’s time to make changes. Eat mindfully and chew your food slowly. Avoid rushing through meals. Enjoy your food at a leisurely pace.

Additionally, keep your phone away while eating and avoid sitting immediately after your meal. Take a few minutes to walk around. Even a 10-minute walk can make a difference. Avoid sitting continuously for hours; try to walk every 1-2 hours and stay hydrated. In the summer, your body requires more water, so drink plenty. Moreover, during lunch, opt for lighter, nutritious meals instead of fried foods, as they are easier to digest.
