Telangana Leader Kalvakuntla Kavitha Warns Center Over Representation Concerns

Hyderabad, April 16: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the president of Telangana Jagruti, has embarked on a spiritual journey to Varanasi ahead of the launch of her new political party. She plans to offer prayers at the renowned Kashi Vishwanath Temple, marking a significant step in her political career.

Before her departure, Kavitha addressed the media in Hyderabad, raising concerns about the central government’s policies regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill and the proposed delimitation. She highlighted that Telangana’s current representation in Parliament stands at approximately 3.13 percent, and this should remain the baseline after the delimitation process. According to her, any reduction in this representation could lead to public discontent, prompting citizens to take to the streets in protest.

Kavitha also reacted to the central government’s proposal to increase seats by 50 percent. While she acknowledged that the proposal seems reasonable at first glance, she pointed out that the disparity in allocation for Telangana compared to other states is significant. She emphasized that any imbalance with southern states is unacceptable and called for fair representation.

On the issue of linking the Women’s Reservation Bill with delimitation, Kavitha expressed strong opposition. She criticized the central government for intertwining these two issues, asserting that the Women’s Reservation should be implemented independently. She suggested that it should be connected with the reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) to ensure social justice for women as well.

Kavitha strongly advocated for a sub-quota for women within the OBC reservation under the Women’s Reservation. She stated that it is crucial for women to receive their fair share within the 33 percent reservation. She noted that there is confusion surrounding these bills and urged the government to establish a clear policy that maintains social and regional balance.
