New Delhi, April 18: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao met with Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, expressing gratitude for the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill.
Rao stated, “The day started wonderfully when I met Priyanka Gandhi. I congratulated her for the guidance she provided to the party, which helped unite the opposition and successfully defeat the undemocratic constitutional amendment proposed to weaken South India, the Northeast, and smaller states.”
He added, “Priyanka Gandhi brilliantly highlighted the truth behind this issue, clarifying that this special session was neither about the previously unanimously passed women’s bill nor about women’s empowerment. Instead, it was being used as a facade to advance a delimitation agenda that is completely unacceptable.”
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge’s extraordinary efforts to unite the opposition for the sake of the country’s future. He noted that Priyanka Gandhi’s encouraging words inspired him in his efforts to promote unity in South India and expose the serious flaws in the delimitation model proposed by the BJP, while also suggesting positive alternatives.
It is noteworthy that during the three-day special session of Parliament, the Women’s Reservation 131st Amendment Bill could not be passed. In the voting held on Friday evening regarding three bills related to women’s reservation and delimitation, a total of 528 votes were cast, with 298 in favor and 230 against. The bill required a two-thirds majority of 352 votes but fell short by 54 votes.
