Patna, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in Bihar, intensified his criticism of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on September 25 regarding a recent incident in Jamui. He accused the Chief Minister of disclosing the identity of a minor victim through a post on social media.
Although the post was later deleted, screenshots circulated widely online. Yadav demanded that the Bihar police take action against the Chief Minister, asserting that revealing the identity of a minor victim is a serious violation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
In response to the social media post, Yadav claimed that by sharing the image, Chief Minister Chaudhary violated the protections afforded under the POCSO Act. He pointed out that police are already taking action against individuals accused of sharing material that reveals the identity of the Jamui victim.
The Bihar police have registered cases against 120 social media accounts related to the dissemination of videos from the incident and have issued warnings against sharing content that identifies the minor. Yadav emphasized that the same legal standards should apply to the image shared from the Chief Minister’s account.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader indicated that if the police fail to take appropriate action, he may seek legal recourse, potentially involving the Bihar police in the proceedings.
Whether the deleted social media post constitutes a crime under the POCSO Act will ultimately depend on the facts of the case and the judgment of the relevant authorities or courts.
Reports indicate that Samrat Chaudhary met with the victim and her family at his official residence in Patna on Thursday and posted a message assuring them of swift justice, accompanied by a photograph from the meeting. He also stated that the state government would work towards ensuring harsh penalties for the offenders. However, the post was subsequently removed.
Yadav also responded to comments made by Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas, regarding the Jamui incident.
