Patna, March 17: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and National Executive President of the RJD, expressed his views on the defeat of the Mahagathbandhan candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections. He confidently stated that victory was assured if certain individuals had not betrayed the alliance.
In a media interaction following the election results, Yadav noted that the Mahagathbandhan initially held a strong lead. It was already clear that they had six votes for the fifth candidate, while the NDA had three votes less. Despite this, they chose to fight rather than surrender. Yadav emphasized their commitment to opposing the ideology of the NDA.
He mentioned that they had secured support from AIMIM and BSP, completing their count to six votes. Yadav pointed to “horse trading,” accusing the BJP of employing deceitful tactics, including the misuse of money power and administrative machinery. He claimed that such practices were not limited to Bihar but were occurring in several states.
It is noteworthy that all five NDA candidates won in the Bihar Rajya Sabha elections. Following the counting of votes on Monday evening, NDA candidates Nitish Kumar, Nitin Naveen, Upendra Kushwaha, Ramnath Thakur, and Shivesh Ram were declared victorious.
Reports indicate that NDA’s fifth candidate, Shivesh Kumar, won based on second preference votes, although he received the highest number of votes overall. The RJD had fielded Amarendra Dhari Singh for the Mahagathbandhan, leading to complications over the fifth seat. The outcome of the Rajya Sabha elections is expected to bring significant changes to Bihar’s political landscape, as Nitish Kumar will have to vacate the Chief Minister position to assume his role in the Upper House.
