New Delhi, 19 August (Kiran News). The selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the Indian T20 squad for the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to begin in the UAE from 9 September. Jasprit Bumrah, the hero of the T20 World Cup 2024, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have returned to the team after more than a year. Shreyas Iyer has once again been overlooked.

Bumrah last played in the final of the T20 World Cup in June 2024, where his superb figures of 2/18 played a key role in India’s historic win against South Africa. He was also named Player of the Series in that tournament. However, due to injuries and workload management, he has been away from white-ball cricket for a long time.

Suryakumar Yadav has been named captain, while Shubman Gill will serve as vice-captain. Gill also returns to the T20 format. On this, captain Suryakumar said, “When Gill last played T20, he was the vice-captain. After that, he did not get many opportunities due to Test cricket. We are happy that he is back.”

Praising the team selection, Suryakumar highlighted Abhishek Sharma’s excellent performance over the past year and his ability to contribute both with the bat and ball. However, due to team combinations, some players had to be left out. Explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been included in the main squad but has been named as a standby.
