The Houston Rockets have faced a recurring issue this season with right ankle sprains, and Tari Eason has become the latest player to join that list. In under two weeks, Eason, along with teammates Steven Adams and Alperen Sengun, have all encountered similar injuries.
Adams has already returned after missing a week, while Sengun is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 14 days. Eason’s injury occurred during the third quarter of Friday night’s 111-105 defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers. The fourth-year forward was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game but later returned to the bench in uniform.
Reports indicate that Eason was able to walk without assistance and put weight on his right leg, suggesting the sprain might be relatively minor, similar to the injuries sustained by Adams and Sengun. However, no official timeline has been provided regarding his return.
With Eason potentially missing more playing time, reserves such as Reed Sheppard, Josh Okogie, and Dorian Finney-Smith could see an increase in minutes on the court.
Rockets Struggle on the Road
Houston’s recent loss to Portland marked their second consecutive defeat against the Trail Blazers, bringing their road record to 11-11 this season. Portland, with a 10-9 home record, managed to overturn a 13-point deficit after three quarters with a strong fourth-quarter performance, outscoring Houston by 19 points.
Eason, who has been one of the NBA’s top three-point shooters since Christmas with a 46.8 percent success rate, was absent for the entire final quarter. Jabari Smith Jr., who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, struggled in the last quarter, shooting 0-of-8. Coach Ime Udoka expressed frustration over the team’s mental toughness and aggression during the crucial moments.
Dependence on Kevin Durant Highlighted
Kevin Durant led the Rockets with 30 points on 55 percent shooting and climbed to seventh place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Despite his strong performance, the Rockets have relied heavily on the 37-year-old star, a concern noted by head coach Udoka following the back-to-back losses in Portland.
Udoka stated, “The fact that we have to rely on a 37-year-old for 40+ minutes is a problem,” highlighting the need for more balanced contributions across the team.

Upcoming Games
The Rockets will face the Sacramento Kings next on Sunday night, with the game scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. Central Time. The match will be broadcast regionally on the Space City Home Network and nationally on NBA League Pass.
