Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Demands Action Against Schools for Religious Discrimination
Tamil Nadu BJP leader Nainar Nagendran calls for criminal action against schools accused of religious discrimination against Hindu students.

Chennai, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran has called for criminal action against the heads of two schools in the Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts, alleging religious discrimination against Hindu students.
In a post on the social media platform X, Nagendran highlighted incidents in Athur, Tuticorin, and Thakkalai, Kanyakumari. He accused the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of failing to protect students’ religious identities and their freedom to worship.
According to Nagendran, the headmaster of a school in Athur ordered over 30 students observing a fast for Dussehra to remove their religious garlands. He also claimed that violence occurred during this incident.
In another case, he alleged that a headmistress in Thakkalai instructed a 10th-grade student to hide her bangles. Nagendran described these incidents as alarming examples of interference in students’ religious and cultural practices.
The BJP leader argued that such actions could severely harm children’s development in their formative years and undermine their sense of identity. He labeled these alleged incidents as violations of human rights and demanded immediate accountability from school administrations.
Nagendran also accused the Vijay government of an increase in religious oppression since taking office, alleging that ministers have shown religious bias, which has encouraged school administrations to act similarly.
He emphasized that educational institutions should promote equality and religious harmony, insisting that schools respect students’ identities and their right to worship. He urged the government to ensure that schools do not become places where children of any particular faith feel targeted for their beliefs.
Calling for criminal action against the school heads involved in the Athur and Thakkalai incidents, Nagendran urged the ruling Tamilga Vetrikazhagam (TVK) government and its ministers to put an end to such behavior.
