Voting will take place in a single phase on April 23, with counting and results expected to be declared on May 4. According to the Election Commission, 1.25 million voters will cast their votes for the first time.
Data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) reveals that among the state’s voters, there are 2,530 individuals aged 100 years and older, nearly 400,000 voters aged between 85 and 100, approximately 463,000 disabled voters, and a significant youth demographic, with around 10.5 million voters in the 20-29 age group. The presence of these various age groups indicates a broad demographic participation expected in the upcoming assembly elections.
Recently, the Election Commission also announced the election schedules for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Voting in West Bengal will occur in two phases on April 23 and 29, while Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will hold elections on April 9.
Alongside the election schedule, the Election Commission has released detailed demographic data about Tamil Nadu’s voters, providing insights into the number and structure of participants. These statistics highlight the strong presence of young voters in the state.
The Commission noted that 1.25 million voters aged 18-19 will be voting for the first time. In addition to young voters, the ECI has recorded 67,056 serving voters in Tamil Nadu, including members of the armed forces and government employees serving outside their home constituencies.
To ensure smooth electoral operations, officials are preparing 75,032 polling stations across the state. These stations will be equipped with necessary facilities to assist elderly voters, disabled individuals, and other categories of voters.
As preparations for the election campaign intensify, political parties across Tamil Nadu are ramping up their election outreach efforts. With participation expected from first-time voters to centenarians, the upcoming assembly elections are anticipated to be one of the most talked-about political contests in the state.
