T20 World Cup: Sachin Tendulkar Boosts Sanju Samsons Confidence, India Makes History

Ahmedabad, March 9: The Indian cricket team has clinched the T20 World Cup 2026 title. In a thrilling final held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs. Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in this victory, scoring a remarkable 89 runs off 46 balls, helping India secure the championship for the third time.

This marks Samson’s third consecutive half-century in the tournament, earning him the Player of the Series award.

After receiving the accolade, Samson credited his resurgence in batting and regained confidence to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Reflecting on his return to the playing eleven after a period out of the team, Samson mentioned that he received guidance from senior players. He maintained close contact with Tendulkar during this time. “When I was out of the playing eleven during the Australia tour, I pondered what mindset I needed. I spoke with him, and we had many discussions,” Samson said.

He added that Tendulkar reached out to him before the final to check on his feelings, stating, “What could be better than having a mentor like him? I am grateful for the clarity, game preparation, awareness, and sense he provided.”

Following Tendulkar’s advice, Samson’s batting transformed completely. He appeared calm at the crease, showing no signs of haste, and delivered a historic performance for India in the T20 World Cup.

Samson scored an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies, followed by 89 in the semi-final against England, and another 89 in the final against New Zealand, making him the highest run-scorer in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, surpassing Virat Kohli.

In five matches, he amassed 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.38, including 24 fours and 27 sixes. Samson also hit the most sixes in this World Cup, setting a record for the most sixes by a batsman in a single edition of the tournament.

Samson made his debut in 2015, but it was at the T20 World Cup 2026 that he finally received the success and recognition he truly deserved.
