Ahmedabad, March 8: The T20 World Cup 2026 final is set to take place between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium today. Varun Chakravarthy has faced challenges in recent matches, notably conceding 64 runs in his four-over spell during the semi-final against England. However, captain Surya Kumar Yadav insists that Varun’s poor form is not a cause for concern.
In a press conference, Surya stated, “There’s nothing to worry about. We won the match. This is a team sport, and everyone gives their best. When we all perform well together, that’s when we win. Once we secure a victory, we don’t focus too much on individual performances. The team goes through ups and downs. There are 11 players, and not everyone will have a great day. Performance can fluctuate, and the other players are there to cover for them. I’m not worried. He is the world’s number one bowler. He is a world-class player and knows how to win matches. He will definitely perform well.”
Surya also expressed confidence in the Indian batsmen’s performance against off-spin bowlers, saying, “We haven’t discussed this at all. If we are playing the final at a strike rate of 120, I would prefer to play at that rate. There are no issues within the team. We talk sometimes, but we don’t dwell on it. If a batsman performs well against a bowler on a given day, it’s essential to go out and bat according to the team’s needs. That’s what we are doing.”
The Indian team has reached the T20 World Cup final for the fourth time and for the second consecutive time. If India manages to defeat New Zealand in the final, they will make history. Notably, no team has successfully defended the T20 World Cup title in the tournament’s history. New Zealand has reached the final for the second time, having previously lost to Australia in the 2021 T20 World Cup final.
