Pune, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Police in Pune have arrested a man accused of threatening senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Jitendra Awhad. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Vishal Madhavrao Bichchewad, was living in a rented house in the Lonikand area and worked as a security supervisor for a private company.
On the night of October 19, Awhad received multiple calls and offensive messages from an unknown number. The caller allegedly threatened him with violence and used abusive language. Following this incident, Awhad lodged a complaint at the Vartak Nagar police station in Thane.
During the investigation, the vigilance of Bichchewad’s landlord played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. Awhad had shared details of the threatening number on social media, prompting his landlord, Anil Kand, to recognize it as belonging to his tenant, Vishal Bichchewad. Kand then took Bichchewad to the Lonikand police station and informed the authorities.
Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokade from Lonikand police station stated that upon receiving the tip-off, police verified the number and the suspect’s identity. Once confirmed, they relayed this information to the Vartak Nagar police station in Thane. A team from Thane police then traveled to Pune and took Bichchewad into custody.
