New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sushma Verma has joined the Trinbago Knight Riders for the knockout stage of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPCL). She steps in for fellow Indian player Yastika Bhatia, who has withdrawn to participate in an upcoming series against Australia A.
Yastika, who is set to captain the India A team in a three-match one-day series starting September 20, was a consistent run-scorer for Trinbago, making her absence a significant blow to the team.
Expressing her excitement about joining the Knight Riders, Sushma stated, “Being part of the WCPCL is special, and I am grateful for the opportunity with the Knight Riders setup. I believe this is a reward for my hard work in T20 cricket.”
Sushma is the sixth Indian player to participate in the 2026 WCPCL. Alongside her and Yastika, Shikha Pandey is also part of the Trinbago squad. Other Indian players, including Kiran Navgire, Pooja Vastrakar, and Harleen Deol, are competing for the Barbados Tridents.
This opportunity marks Sushma’s return to top-level cricket, as she last represented India in 2023 during a T20 tri-series in South Africa, although she did not get to play any matches. The 33-year-old has played one Test, 43 ODIs, and 19 T20s for the national team.
In the 2023 Women’s Premier League, she was part of the Gujarat Giants, scoring 42 runs at a strike rate of 79.24 across five innings. Recently, she has focused on enhancing her batting skills, hitting nine sixes in six innings during the 2025-26 domestic one-day tournament.
The Trinbago Knight Riders have secured a place in the finals of the WCPCL 2026.
