Surat Metro Begins Trial Runs on New Route, 8.5 km Viaduct Completed

Surat, March 29: The trial runs for the Surat Metro Rail project have officially commenced on a crucial segment. Officials announced on Sunday that testing began following the completion of an 8.5-kilometer viaduct between Dream City and Althan Tenament.

According to the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), the elevated section of this route is now fully constructed, allowing for the initiation of metro operations testing.

During this trial phase, metro trains will operate for approximately 500 hours. This extensive testing aims to evaluate the system’s performance, reliability, and safety standards. Passenger services will only begin after these assessments are completed.

This milestone is considered a significant achievement in the progress of the Surat Metro project, which aims to enhance the urban transportation infrastructure of the city.

The project is advancing according to schedule under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Officials reported that the track laying and installation of the ‘third rail’ for power supply on this corridor have been completed. Additionally, civil construction work for all seven stations along the route has also been finalized.

Currently, work related to the entry and exit points, interiors, and finishing touches at the stations is ongoing.

Before the corridor opens to the public, a comprehensive inspection will be conducted by the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) and the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner (CMRS).

These inspections will evaluate technical systems, operational readiness, and safety standards. Metro services will only commence after receiving all necessary safety certifications.

The Surat Metro project represents a vital step towards modernizing public transport in the city and providing improved connectivity. Once operational, it is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and offer residents a fast and convenient travel option.
