Congress Leader Borah Thakur Criticizes BJPs Election Manifesto as Superficial

Guwahati, March 31: The political atmosphere in Assam is heating up ahead of the upcoming elections. Congress leader Meera Borah Thakur sharply criticized the BJP’s election manifesto on Tuesday, labeling it as “superficial.”

She stated that while the BJP’s vision document promises security for Assam and the expulsion of infiltrators, there is little evidence of these commitments being realized on the ground.

Borah Thakur remarked, “There is much written in the manifesto, but in reality, no work has been done.” She raised questions about the functioning of the ruling party.

During her address, she also condemned the alleged attack on a Congress candidate, accusing BJP workers of involvement in the violence. “Such incidents are unacceptable. We strongly denounce the attack on our candidate,” she stated.

Responding to allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi regarding properties in Pakistan, Borah Thakur dismissed these claims as a political conspiracy. She asserted that Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is making such statements out of fear of losing political ground.

She added, “Gaurav Gogoi is receiving support, and these accusations are being made because they fear his potential rise to power.”

Regarding the electoral contest, Borah Thakur expressed confidence in Congress’s strong position, claiming the party will perform well across all constituencies. She predicted that senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi would secure the third position, while leaders like Jayant Das would be significant contenders in a tough race.

Speaking on cultural issues, she referenced popular Assamese singer Jubin Garg, stating that if Congress comes to power, justice will be ensured within 100 days.

She emphasized, “Congress fulfills its promises. Jubin Garg is the heartbeat of Assam and belongs to everyone, not just one individual.”

As accusations fly between the BJP and Congress, the electoral battle in Assam continues to intensify.
