Supreme Court Upholds Jharkhand CGL Result and Appointments

Ranchi, 5 January: The Supreme Court has delivered a significant verdict in the widely discussed Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination case. The top court dismissed the petition challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s order, ruling in favour of the state government and the successful candidates.

The bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta held that the Jharkhand High Court’s decision is correct and balanced, requiring no interference. Consequently, the pleas by the appellants have been rejected.

Earlier, on 3 December, the Jharkhand High Court had passed a crucial order related to the JSSC-CGL exam cases. The division bench had stayed the results of 10 suspicious candidates while allowing the appointment process for the remaining qualified candidates. The court also directed JSSC to complete the further procedure. Following this, JSSC released the merit list, and the state government issued appointment letters to the selected candidates last week.

The High Court had heard a public interest litigation concerning allegations of paper leak and clarified that the results of candidates suspected or accused in the paper leak would not be declared. The court also rejected the demand for a CBI probe in this matter.

It was observed that the case did not warrant investigation by the CBI. However, the special investigation team set up to probe the entire issue was directed to continue its inquiry and conclude it within six months. During the High Court hearing, Advocate Amritansh Vats appeared on behalf of the successful candidates.
