Supreme Court Hears Petition Against NEET-PG 2025 Cut-Off Reduction

The Supreme Court reviewed a petition challenging the cut-off reduction for NEET-PG 2025, as a new percentile system is proposed.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Supreme Court of India recently held a hearing regarding a petition that contests the decision to lower the qualifying cut-off percentile for the NEET-PG 2025 examination. This significant development occurred on November 3, 2026, as candidates prepare for the upcoming exams.

During the session, a report from a 12-member expert committee was presented to the court. The committee recommended transitioning from a percentile-based ranking system to a rank-based system for the NEET-PG and NEET-SS exams starting in 2027. While the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given preliminary approval, the final regulations are still pending.

The court was informed that the committee emphasized the importance of maintaining minimum eligibility standards for postgraduate medical education and not relaxing them merely to fill vacant seats. The court instructed that the committee’s report be shared with all parties involved, allowing the petitioners to submit their responses.

The NEET-PG examination is conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in a computer-based test format. The NEET-PG 2025 exam is scheduled for August 3, 2025, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM, with results expected to be announced on September 3, 2025. Admit cards were issued on July 31, 2025, and candidates had the opportunity to select and modify their exam cities from June 13 to June 17, 2025.

The NEET-PG exam serves as a gateway for candidates seeking admission to postgraduate medical courses, including MD (Doctor of Medicine), MS (Master of Surgery), and PG diplomas in various government and private medical colleges across the country.
