Supreme Court Expresses Outrage Over Haryana Polices Insensitivity in Gurugram Rape Case

New Delhi, March 23: The Supreme Court has expressed deep outrage regarding the Haryana police and the judicial magistrate’s handling of a rape case involving a four-year-old girl in Gurugram. The court described the investigation as extremely insensitive and troubling. The bench, led by the Chief Justice, stated that the police’s approach was shocking and further traumatized the child.

The court has ordered the Gurugram Police Commissioner and the investigating officer to appear in person on March 25 with the complete case records. Additionally, the court inquired about the number of female police officers in the Haryana government’s legal department. It also expressed strong discontent over the fact that when the judicial magistrate recorded the child’s statement, the accused was standing very close, likely causing fear and discomfort for the girl.

The child’s parents have requested that the investigation be conducted by the CBI or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) instead of the Gurugram police. The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Haryana government, the DGP, and other parties, demanding a status report from the police.

The court has directed the sessions judge in Gurugram to seek clarification from the magistrate who recorded the child’s statement inappropriately. This clarification is to be submitted to the court in a sealed envelope.

Furthermore, the affidavit filed by the child’s parents has also been ordered to be kept in a sealed cover to protect the child’s identity and privacy.

This case is linked to an incident that occurred between December 2025 and January 2026 in a Gurugram condominium, where the girl accused two female maids and a young man of sexual exploitation. Initially, the police faced allegations of negligence, but following the Supreme Court’s intervention, all three accused were recently arrested. The court now aims to ensure that the investigation is conducted with complete fairness and sensitivity, so that justice can be served for the victimized child.
