Bokaro, March 27: A tragic incident occurred in Bokaro district, Jharkhand, on Friday evening during the Ram Navami celebrations. Six individuals suffered severe burns after coming into contact with high-tension power lines during the conclusion of the Ram Navami procession in Khetko village, under the jurisdiction of the Petarwar police station. Some of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The festive atmosphere in the area turned somber following the incident, leading to chaos in the akhara premises. Reports indicate that devotees and akhara members were in the process of erecting a religious flag (Mahaviri Jhanda) after the procession concluded.
During this time, a massive flag made of iron pipes accidentally came into contact with a 132 kV high-tension line overhead. As soon as the flag touched the wire, a powerful electric current surged through the pipe, affecting the half-dozen individuals nearby. The force of the current was so intense that it caused those holding the flag to be thrown back, resulting in panic at the scene.
Local villagers acted swiftly, transporting the injured to the nearest hospital, where a medical team is currently treating them. Upon receiving news of the incident, district administration and police teams arrived to assess the situation.
Administrative officials visited the hospital to check on the victims and ensured that they received proper medical care. The police have temporarily halted the area’s electricity supply as a precaution. Authorities have urged the public to exercise heightened vigilance regarding power lines and other potential hazards during events like processions and flag installations.
