Sujata Bhuyan from Sambalpur Recognized by PM Modi for Her Fish Farming Success

Bhubaneswar, March 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Sujata Bhuyan from Sambalpur during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on Sunday for her remarkable efforts in fish farming. Sujata expressed her happiness and gratitude towards the Prime Minister for the recognition.

Sujata has successfully implemented cage culture techniques in the Hirakud reservoir. The Prime Minister specifically highlighted her initiative and determination. Speaking to a news agency, Sujata shared, “I started my work with a bank loan.”

In response to the Prime Minister’s commendation, Sujata stated, “I am proud that he mentioned my name.” She thanked both the Prime Minister and the Fisheries Department for their support.

Sujata explained that her success was largely due to government assistance, which included bank loans and support from the Fisheries Department. Her journey began after visiting the Hirakud reservoir, where she observed fish farming activities and subsequently contacted the department. After receiving training, she started her venture in 2022 with a bank loan.

Currently, she is engaged in tilapia fish farming. Sujata acknowledged facing numerous challenges as a woman in this field, especially in the initial stages. However, she noted that conditions gradually improved over time.

Reports indicate that Sujata earned nearly 600,000 rupees in her first year of operation, inspiring many women in the process. She has also gained recognition for supplying fish to markets outside the state.

Despite being a homemaker, Sujata regularly visits the reservoir to manage her fish farming activities while taking care of her family.
