Rohit Sharma Breaks MS Dhonis Record in IPL 2026 Match

New Delhi, April 4: In the eighth match of IPL 2026, the Mumbai Indians faced off against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Mumbai’s star batsman, Rohit Sharma, scored 35 runs off 26 balls, surpassing a significant record held by MS Dhoni.

With this performance, Rohit has climbed to third place on the list of batsmen with the most sixes against a single team in IPL history. He has also become the Indian player with the highest number of sixes against a specific team in the IPL. During his innings of 35 runs, Rohit hit one six, bringing his total to 51 sixes against the Delhi Capitals, thus overtaking Dhoni, who hit 50 sixes against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The record for the most sixes in this category is held by Chris Gayle, who has hit 61 sixes against the Punjab Kings.

After losing the toss, the Mumbai Indians had a rocky start. Ryan Rickelton struggled, scoring only 9 runs off 11 balls before being dismissed. Tilak Varma, who came in at number three, was sent back to the pavilion without scoring. However, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who was not fully fit, Suryakumar Yadav took on the captaincy and formed a crucial partnership of 53 runs with Rohit Sharma for the third wicket. Rohit’s innings included five fours and one six, while Suryakumar scored 51 runs off 36 balls at a strike rate of 141.

The Mumbai Indians made three changes to their playing eleven for this match. Hardik Pandya was replaced by Deepak Chahar due to fitness issues. Corbin Bosch and Mitchell Santner were also brought into the team, replacing Trent Boult and Allah Gajanfar, respectively.
