Suheldev University: A Beacon of Higher Education in Azamgarh

Azamgarh, February 11: The Suheldev State University has emerged as a significant center for higher education in Azamgarh, thanks to the initiatives of the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh. Despite the absence of a local BJP representative, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath established this university for the district without any discrimination.

Founded in 2021, the university has made remarkable strides in education, infrastructure, and facilities in a short period. It offers modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, a Wi-Fi-enabled library, a music building, and ample sports facilities, providing students with an enhanced academic environment.

In an interview, Registrar Dr. Anjani Kumar Mishra shared that the university was established in 2021, and by 2024, administrative and academic activities were relocated to the new campus. Currently, around 80 regular faculty members and an equal number of outsourced staff are engaged in various courses.

Initially, the student enrollment was about 300, but it has surged to approximately 1,300 due to the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts and the introduction of new academic programs. Most classes are conducted in smart classrooms, and the university boasts a state-of-the-art library and music building, which students are utilizing extensively. The library is also open to students from nearby colleges, and principals from local aided and government colleges have been encouraged to develop similar libraries.

Dr. Mishra highlighted that extensive arrangements have been made to promote sports as well. The university has adopted nearly five nearby villages, working to disseminate information about government schemes. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, noting that students previously had to travel two hours to Purvanchal University for education. Now, with higher education available locally, both time and money are saved. The establishment of the university is also expected to boost economic activities in the region.

Library Coordinator Brij Kishore Mishra mentioned that over a thousand students are currently enrolled in various courses. The library offers online Wi-Fi access and a substantial collection of books from various authors, facilitating students’ studies. He also thanked the Chief Minister for his support.

Students have praised the facilities at the university. MSc student Pawan Kumar Chauhan stated that having the university nearby eliminates the need to travel far for education. Classes are well-organized, and essential books are readily available in the library, which he deemed a commendable initiative by the government.

Student Nisha Singh remarked that she previously had to go to Purvanchal University, but now she receives quality education with digital boards and modern facilities right in her district. She thanked the Yogi government for creating a better environment for students.

BCA student Shambhavi Gupta noted that under the Yogi government, female students are realizing their dreams. The university is free from ragging and emphasizes extracurricular activities alongside academics. Previously, students had to travel to cities like Kanpur or Allahabad for higher education, but now quality education is accessible locally, enhancing the educational standards.

LLM student Jyoti expressed that local students now have the opportunity to study at the university level, fulfilling their dreams. She mentioned that there is no discrimination, and a safe environment is provided for girls.

Vibha Mishra, a teacher in the Integrative Science department, stated that the university’s opening has significantly benefited female students from nearby rural areas. Previously, village girls faced numerous social and economic challenges when seeking education outside, but now they can pursue higher education locally and participate in large numbers.

Meanwhile, Vaishali Singh, a guest lecturer in the Commerce department, noted that the university’s establishment has proven beneficial not only for students but also for faculty. For those female students unable to study outside due to economic and social reasons, this university is a blessing. She expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, stating that this initiative marks a milestone in the region’s educational development.
