Successful Thumb Surgery for Galatasarays Noa Lang After Injury Against Liverpool

Liverpool, March 19: Galatasaray winger Noa Lang has successfully undergone thumb surgery following an injury sustained during the Champions League Round of 16 match against Liverpool on Wednesday. Lang collided with advertising boards, resulting in a severe injury.

The 26-year-old Dutch player was injured while chasing the ball in the 76th minute, crashing into the boards. He fell to the ground in pain, clutching his right hand after noticing a deep cut on his thumb. Liverpool players Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk rushed to his aid as medical staff began treatment. Lang, appearing to be in significant distress, was given oxygen before being taken off the field on a stretcher.

After the surgery, Lang shared an update on social media, confirming that the operation went smoothly. He posted, “The surgery went well. Thank you all for your messages.” Earlier, he had shared a photo from the hospital, lying in bed while still wearing his Galatasaray jersey.

Galatasaray’s head coach Okan Buruk described the incident as a “serious injury” after the match. Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory, advancing to the quarter-finals. The Turkish club also reported that Victor Osimhen suffered a fracture in his right arm during a collision with Ibrahima Konaté in the first half. Despite the injury, the Nigerian forward continued to play until half-time before being substituted.

In an official statement, the club noted, “A post-match examination at the hospital, under the supervision of our medical team, revealed that our player has a fracture in his right arm, which has been put in a cast.”

With their defeat against Liverpool, Galatasaray has been eliminated from the tournament. Meanwhile, six-time champions Liverpool will face 2025 UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the quarter-finals. The first leg will be played on April 9 at the Parc des Princes in Paris, with the second leg scheduled for April 15 at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium.
