Mumbai, March 21: Renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai needs no introduction in the realm of Hindi cinema. Known for hits like ‘Taal’, ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Pardes’, and ‘Ram Lakhan’, Ghai has captivated audiences for decades. However, few know that he was unaware that Hindi cinema would become his life’s calling and that he would achieve a unique position in the industry. This revelation may sound surprising, but it is indeed true.
Ghai, who gained fame as a producer and director, had no inkling of the twists fate had in store for him. A pivotal moment in 1967 changed the course of his life. He played a small role alongside actor Jalal Agha in the film ‘Takdir’. Although his role was minor, it was enough to unlock the door to his destiny, leading him to appear in films like ‘Aradhana’ and ‘Umang’. Yet, fate was charting a path for him not as an actor, but as a director.
Recently, Subhash Ghai shared memories related to his film and posted an old photograph. The image features two young boys, making it challenging to identify which one is him. In the caption, he wrote, “This was my first film as an actor in 1967. Yes, it was produced by Rajshri Productions, and I, along with Jalal Agha, was chosen for a small youth role in ‘Takdir’. Can you recognize me in this picture?”
He continued, “I never knew where my destiny would take me in the film industry. Today, I feel fortunate and thank you all.”
It’s noteworthy that Ghai’s career did not flourish as a lead actor, but his directorial debut ‘Kali Churan’ shattered box office records. The film emerged as the biggest action-thriller of the year, earning Ajit Khan the title of ‘Lion’.
