Mumbai, March 24: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to commence on March 28. In preparation for the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has implemented new regulations aimed at enhancing team conduct and logistics during the event.
Under the new guidelines, practice sessions on match days are completely banned. Teams must now conduct all preparations solely during designated times in specified nets, with outdoor practice no longer permitted. Franchises are prohibited from using pitches designated for other teams, even if they are unoccupied.
Each team will be allocated two nets and one side wicket on the main square. Special arrangements have been made for stadiums like those in Mumbai, allowing each team to practice simultaneously on two wickets. Fitness drills and tests will also be banned on match days. Only players and staff are allowed in the practice area, while family members must remain in the ‘hospitality zone.’
The BCCI has tightened rules regarding team movement and the roles of support staff. Players can only travel to practice sessions via team buses, and family members are not permitted to accompany them. Franchises must provide information about net bowlers and throwdown specialists for board approval.
All support staff must carry their ‘accreditation cards’ at all times on match days. Violations will result in warnings and possible fines.
Additionally, players are prohibited from hitting the ball against LED advertising boards during practice and cannot sit in front of them. Separate arrangements will be made for substitute players.
The new regulations also encompass broadcasting and presentation standards. Players who win the Orange Cap and Purple Cap must wear their caps on match days, or at least during the initial overs, to ensure visibility during broadcasts.
During post-match presentations, players must adhere to a strict dress code. Sleeveless jerseys and loose hats are not permitted.
According to previous rules, only 12 support staff members, including team doctors, are allowed in designated areas on match days. If franchises wish to change jersey numbers, they must notify the BCCI at least 24 hours in advance.
