Strict Action Taken in Haridwar Three-Talaq Case, SSP Confirms UCC Provisions Will Be Applied

Haridwar, April 6: The police in Haridwar have taken serious action regarding a three-talaq case, registering a formal complaint. SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar reported that a woman from the Mandarjhoot area filed a complaint stating that her husband verbally issued a three-talaq. Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly registered a case at the Bugga Wala police station and initiated an investigation under the relevant sections of the law.

SSP Bhullar clarified that based on the investigation, additional charges under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be applied. He emphasized that the police act swiftly in such cases, prioritizing the safety of women. Continuous awareness campaigns are also being conducted by the police.

The victim’s brother shared that his sister got married two and a half years ago. There were frequent disputes, and several villagers attempted to mediate. However, the husband’s sister and mother caused significant distress to his sister. Many issues were not disclosed to the family, but ultimately, the husband issued a ‘talaq’ to her.

He stated that the government has introduced the UCC law, which is beneficial for women. They seek action under this law to prevent similar incidents from happening to other sisters. He noted that there is nothing wrong in religion or the Quran, but some individuals exploit it for their gain. They want action to be taken under the laws established by the government.

The victim revealed that she faced mistreatment since her marriage. She endured it for a long time without informing her family, but when it became unbearable, she disclosed it to them. She accused her mother-in-law of inciting threats to her life.
