Strategic Air Operations Planned in Andaman and Nicobar Region

A notice has been issued for potential air operations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from October 20 to 22, emphasizing strategic military activities.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian armed forces have issued a notice regarding potential air operations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from October 20 to 22. According to the Andaman and Nicobar Command, these activities are scheduled to take place daily from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. A relevant maritime notice (NOTAMAR) has been disseminated for this period.

This alert has been prompted by the possibility of strategic firing activities in the region. While specific details about the nature of these operations have not been disclosed, they are linked to potential military maneuvers. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands hold a strategic position in the Indian Ocean, making military activities in this area crucial for maritime security and regional surveillance.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command is India’s only joint military command, integrating the capabilities of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This command plays a vital role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests in the Indian Ocean and the Indo-Pacific region. NOTAMAR serves as a critical communication tool for mariners, providing essential information that may affect maritime navigation, including updates on new survey data, changes in sea routes, and modifications to navigational aids.

The notice also encompasses aerial activities over the sea. More than 60 countries that prepare maritime charts issue such notifications, with about one-third of them providing updates as needed within short intervals. The goal is to inform mariners in advance, enabling them to plan their journeys effectively. Earlier this year, the Indian Air Force showcased its capabilities through the ‘Vayu Shakti-26’ exercise near the India-Pakistan border, resulting in the issuance of a NOTAM due to air traffic regulations during the event.

The ‘Vayu Shakti’ demonstration took place on February 27 at the Pokhran range in Rajasthan, close to the Pakistan border. This major military exercise highlighted the success of Operation ‘Sindoor’, underscoring the Indian Air Force’s ability to assert air dominance and conduct precision strikes over long distances. The exercise was notable for its execution across various conditions—day, evening, and night—showcasing the Air Force’s readiness for continuous operations.
