Stokes Leads Delhi Capitals to Victory Against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Bengaluru, April 18: Tristan Stubbs’ explosive performance propelled the Delhi Capitals (DC) to a thrilling six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday. Named ‘Player of the Match’, Stubbs expressed his relief that the match did not go down to the final over.

Batting first at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB managed to score 175 runs, losing eight wickets. Philip Salt was the standout performer, scoring 63 runs off 38 balls, including three sixes and four fours.

In response, the Delhi Capitals clinched victory in just 19.5 overs. KL Rahul contributed significantly with 57 runs from 34 balls, hitting eight boundaries, while Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten at 60 runs off 47 balls, striking one six and four fours. David Miller also made a quick impact, scoring 22 runs off just 10 balls in the final over.

After receiving the ‘Player of the Match’ award, Stubbs stated, “I was fully prepared for this innings in the dressing room. I thought, just keep your eye on the ball and go from there.”

The Delhi Capitals lost three wickets for just 18 runs, but Stubbs took charge. The right-handed batsman noted that he came in early, but felt it was time to play aggressively during the last two overs of the powerplay. KL Rahul’s ability to take the strike helped the team gain crucial momentum.

Stubbs mentioned that the team had planned to build partnerships, so it was wise to let Rahul take more strikes while he was in good form. Regarding the pitch, he observed that it did not turn much but was slightly slow, resembling their home conditions.

On the strategy for the final overs, Stubbs said, “Yes, I kept thinking that if we hit three sixes, we would be right back in the game. They (RCB) had already bowled their best bowlers early. So, I always thought that even in the worst-case scenario, we could score the runs we needed in the last over. I didn’t want to take the match to the last over, but thankfully, we won. I told Miller that I knew we could do it. I just didn’t know how. So, I’m grateful that David Miller was at the other end. That’s his specialty; that’s his game.”
