New Delhi, April 15: The summer season has arrived, and temperatures are soaring. In many regions, the mercury has exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Neglecting safety during this time can invite serious health risks. Intense sunlight and hot winds can lead to dehydration, causing symptoms like dizziness, weakness, headaches, and nausea.

In severe cases, the risk of heat stroke increases. Heat stroke occurs when the body’s temperature rises dangerously high, and without prompt treatment, it can be fatal. Therefore, understanding your body’s signals during the hot months is crucial.

If you feel excessively thirsty, frequently fatigued, or weak, do not take these signs lightly. They may indicate that your body is struggling with the heat. It is essential to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. Beverages like lemonade, buttermilk, and coconut water can help cool your body.

Avoid going outside between 12 PM and 3 PM, as this is the hottest part of the day when direct sunlight can have the most impact. If you must go out, use an umbrella, hat, or scarf for protection. Wearing loose, light-colored clothing is also vital. Dark and tight clothes can exacerbate heat, while lighter fabrics help keep the body cool.

Indoors, strive to stay cool by using fans, coolers, or air conditioning, and ensure proper ventilation in your rooms. If possible, take cool showers once or twice a day to help regulate your body temperature.

Pay attention to your diet as well. Heavy, fried foods can worsen discomfort in the heat. Opt for light, easily digestible meals that include fruits and green vegetables.

If someone shows symptoms like dizziness, vomiting, fainting, or a significantly elevated body temperature, contact a doctor immediately or take them to the nearest hospital. Delaying treatment can be dangerous.
