Sri Lanka Posts 169 Runs Against West Indies in Third T20 Match

Kingston, June 15: In the third T20 International match between West Indies and Sri Lanka, held at Sabina Park on Monday, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 169 runs in their 20 overs.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka’s start was shaky as captain Kusal Mendis was dismissed for just 5 runs. However, Kamindu Mendis and Pathum Nissanka formed a crucial partnership, adding 43 runs for the second wicket off 25 balls. Nissanka scored 26 runs off 17 balls before being dismissed, while Kamindu managed 28 runs off 23 balls before falling to Roston Chase.

Pawan Ratnayake was sent back to the pavilion by Shemar Joseph without scoring. Kamindu Mendis contributed 20 runs off 15 balls, and Dasun Shanaka added 16 runs off 13 balls before being dismissed by Jason Holder. Nonetheless, Dunith Wellalage anchored the innings, delivering an impressive performance with 43 runs off 28 balls, including six fours and one six.

Wanindu Hasaranga chipped in with 21 runs, while Maheesh Theekshana scored 4 runs before returning to the dugout. Shemar Joseph continued his outstanding bowling form, claiming 5 wickets for just 33 runs in his 4-over spell, marking his third consecutive impressive performance in this T20 series. Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, and Jason Holder each took one wicket.

Joseph’s exceptional bowling included three wickets in the final over of Sri Lanka’s innings, conceding only 5 runs. He dismissed Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, and Theekshana. West Indies made two changes to their playing XI for this match, bringing in Jason Holder and Akeem Auguste in place of Shamar Springer and Romario Shepherd. In the second T20 match of the series, Sri Lanka had secured a 37-run victory, while West Indies won the first T20 by 7 wickets.
