Patna prepares for a grand Dussehra celebration with a 90-foot Ravana effigy and eco-friendly fireworks on October 20.

Patna, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : The historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna will host a grand Dussehra celebration on October 20, featuring the burning of a massive 90-foot Ravana effigy. This year’s event is part of the 71st Shri Ramleela Mahotsav, organized by the Shri Dussehra Committee Trust, and promises to be an impressive spectacle with large effigies and captivating fireworks.

Enthusiasm is high among devotees, and the district administration is on alert to manage crowds and ensure safety and traffic control. Alongside Ravana, effigies of Meghnath and Kumbhkaran will stand at 85 feet and 80 feet, respectively. To protect these creations from potential rain damage, steel pipes have been used in their construction. Following the effigy burning, a half-hour display of eco-friendly fireworks will be a highlight of the evening.

Prominent attendees will include Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Nagaland Governor Nandakishore Yadav, and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. Arun Kumar, president of the Shri Dussehra Committee Trust, noted that this tradition has been ongoing since 1955 and is now entering its 71st year. Chairman Kamal Nopani emphasized that the burning of Ravana is not just a religious event but a celebration of faith, culture, and family traditions.

To ensure the event runs smoothly, the district administration has made extensive preparations. District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma have briefed magistrates and police officers on necessary guidelines. Officials have been instructed to prioritize the comfort of attendees, effective crowd management, and vigilance at entry and exit points.

Traffic arrangements have also been adjusted for the occasion. The district magistrate inspected the site and reviewed preparations for CCTV cameras, sound systems, fire safety measures, first aid centers, and medical facilities. He directed the building construction department to reinforce the stage and barricades and instructed the municipal corporation to maintain cleanliness in Gandhi Maidan.

The administration is committed to ensuring that the large influx of attendees experiences no difficulties, allowing this traditional Dussehra celebration to proceed in a safe environment.
