New Delhi, August 15: Samajwadi Party legislator Ravidas Mehrotra has launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the central government regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, foreign policy, and the security of opposition leaders. He emphasized that the initiative for women’s reservation was first introduced by the founder of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav, while criticizing the BJP-ruled states for not implementing it. Mehrotra also shared his views on RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statements and the ‘Vande Mataram‘ controversy. Meanwhile, TMC MP Dola Sen accused the government of politicizing the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill, Mehrotra stated, “It was Mulayam Singh, the founder of the Samajwadi Party, who first initiated women’s reservation. During his tenure as Chief Minister, the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed. The reservation in district panchayats, municipal panchayats, municipal corporations, and village heads in Uttar Pradesh is due to the efforts of Mulayam Singh Yadav. In BJP-ruled areas, this reservation is not implemented. The BJP government misleads the public.”
Recently, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat remarked that various forces are working to prevent the country from becoming a global leader. Questioning this, Mehrotra said, “Amid the ongoing conflict between Iran, America, and Israel, the Indian government has made no attempts to broker a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Pakistan is trying to ease tensions between Iran and America. India had an opportunity to mediate, yet the government made no such effort.”
Regarding the singing of ‘Vande Mataram,’ he commented on videos of Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, stating, “During the era of colonial rule, people sang ‘Vande Mataram’ and went to jail; however, no leader from the RSS or BJP sang it during the freedom struggle. We wish to sing ‘Vande Mataram’ as we did before. No one can be forced to sing the entire song.”
On the issue of security for opposition leaders, Mehrotra remarked, “The BJP government is failing to provide security to opposition leaders; ensuring their safety is the government’s responsibility.”
TMC MP Dola Sen commented on the Women’s Reservation Bill, saying, “This is not acceptable. When it came to the Women’s Reservation Bill, we all unanimously passed it; that was in 2024. Now, the bill we defeated is the delimitation bill, which includes one party, one nation, one leader, etc. They could not win; we defeated them. However, regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, they are making claims without any reason.”
