New Delhi, April 16: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will embark on a state visit to India from April 19 to 22. This visit aims to enhance the strategic partnership, trade, and investment between the two nations. According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the itinerary is significant from both diplomatic and economic perspectives.
Kyung-hoon Kim, head of the India and South Asia team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIET) under the South Korean Prime Minister’s Office, provided a detailed overview of the visit. He emphasized its importance for the economic health of both countries.
At the beginning of the trip, President Lee will meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for a courtesy call, where various aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed. Following this, he will attend a dinner with the Korean community in India, signaling a strengthening of people-to-people ties.
The next day, a formal welcome ceremony for President Lee will take place. He will visit Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. This will be followed by a bilateral summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The summit is expected to address crucial issues such as defense cooperation, semiconductors, electric vehicles, green energy, and supply chains. After the discussions, several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) will be signed, and a joint press statement will be issued.
To promote economic cooperation, President Lee will also participate in the India-Korea Business Dialogue and Business Forum, which will include representatives from both countries’ industries. This platform will serve as a vital means to explore investment, technological collaboration, and new partnership opportunities.
This visit is anticipated to play a crucial role in elevating India-South Korea relations, especially at a time when new challenges in global supply chains and technological cooperation are emerging.
