SIT Intensifies Interrogation of Granite Businessman R. Veeramani in POCSO Cases

The SIT has increased its questioning of granite businessman R. Veeramani, accused of sexually exploiting minors, following a court order.

Chennai, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has ramped up its questioning of granite businessman R. Veeramani, who is currently incarcerated amid allegations of sexual exploitation of minor girls. Following a court order, investigators have been granted an additional two days to interrogate him.

Due to Veeramani’s age, the court has permitted the questioning to take place within the prison premises. According to police reports, ten girls have filed complaints against him, leading to the registration of seven cases.

The SIT is actively investigating these complaints and examining Veeramani’s responses to the allegations. Police indicated that the interrogation took place from Friday morning until evening, during which Veeramani’s statements were recorded. It is anticipated that questioning will continue inside the jail on Saturday to fulfill the court-approved extension.

This latest round of interrogation comes after Veeramani spent three days in police custody. Investigators subsequently secured judicial approval for two additional days of questioning, which has now been relocated to the jail as per the court’s arrangement.

Authorities reported that Veeramani has been arrested in four of the seven cases filed against him, and he is also being held under the Goonda Act. The investigation into the allegations of sexual exploitation is being conducted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

While the police have disclosed the number of complainants and cases, they have not provided detailed information regarding the statements recorded during Friday’s questioning or Veeramani’s responses. The investigation remains ongoing, and a resolution regarding the charges against the businessman is still pending.

The registration of cases and the ongoing questioning are part of the investigative process and do not imply guilt. The court’s ruling has allowed the investigative team to continue their work while Veeramani remains in custody.
