Mumbai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) in mutual funds hit a new milestone in September, with investments soaring to ₹32,490 crores. This figure surpasses the previous record of ₹32,297 crores set in August, as reported by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
Investment in equity mutual funds also showed robust growth, with net inflows reaching ₹38,307 crores in September, up from ₹29,328 crores in August. This represents a significant month-over-month increase of approximately 30.6%. Notably, this surge occurred despite overall withdrawal pressures in the mutual fund industry.
By the end of September, the total assets under management (AUM) in the mutual fund sector stood at ₹82.64 lakh crores, a decline from ₹87.08 lakh crores in August.
Breaking it down by category, investments in small-cap funds rose to ₹9,039 crores from ₹7,973 crores in August. Mid-cap funds also saw an increase, with investments climbing from ₹6,989 crores to ₹7,835 crores.
Flexi-cap funds attracted ₹6,702 crores, up from ₹5,059 crores the previous month. Sectoral and thematic funds experienced a rise in investments to ₹3,640 crores, compared to ₹1,713 crores in August.
In the large-cap funds category, September recorded an investment of ₹859 crores, a notable recovery from the ₹1,147 crores outflow seen in August. Multi-asset allocation funds remained stable, with investments at ₹3,667 crores, nearly matching August’s ₹3,671 crores.
Despite the strong performance in SIPs and equity investments, the mutual fund industry faced a net outflow of ₹1.33 lakh crores in September. This contrasts sharply with the net inflow of ₹41,353 crores recorded in August.
The primary driver of this outflow was the debt (fixed income) funds, which saw withdrawals of ₹1.83 lakh crores in September, compared to an outflow of ₹8,127 crores in August.
These figures indicate that, despite market volatility, investor confidence in equity mutual funds and SIPs remains strong, particularly in small-cap, mid-cap, and flexi-cap schemes, which are increasingly attracting investor interest.
