Simple Ways to Prevent Hyper Acidity and Ease Stomach Discomfort

New Delhi: Hyper acidity has become a common problem due to irregular routines and unhealthy eating habits. It occurs when the stomach produces excess hydrochloric acid, causing symptoms like burning sensation in the chest or stomach, sour burps, a sour taste in the mouth, nausea, and gas.

The primary causes of hyper acidity include spicy and fried foods, stress, irregular lifestyle, and prolonged hunger. In Ayurveda, this condition is known as ‘Amlapitta’. It can be effectively managed with proper habits and home remedies.

The Ministry of AYUSH has issued a simple and effective Ayurvedic guide to raise awareness about the increasing cases of hyper acidity. The ministry emphasizes that small changes in daily habits can provide long-term relief from symptoms and strengthen the digestive system.

Hyper acidity happens when acid levels in the stomach rise above normal. This leads to discomfort such as burning in the stomach and chest, heaviness in the upper abdomen, nausea, restlessness, sour taste in the mouth, and sometimes vomiting. Early recognition and lifestyle improvements can help control these symptoms easily.

Experts suggest avoiding heavy, very spicy, sour, and hot foods completely. Junk food, processed, and packaged items should also be avoided. It is important not to stay hungry or thirsty for long periods and to eat small amounts at regular intervals. Smoking and alcohol consumption must be completely avoided. Drinking adequate water daily, especially 8-10 glasses during the day, is beneficial. Going to bed on time and getting good sleep are crucial, as irregular sleep can worsen digestion. To manage stress, anxiety, and mental pressure, incorporating yoga, meditation, pranayama, or light walking into the daily routine is recommended.

These small changes not only reduce hyper acidity symptoms but also improve gut health. This guide is especially useful for those who frequently experience acidity, gas, burning, or stomach discomfort. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, medical consultation should be sought immediately.
