Ranchi, February 17: A shocking incident occurred in the Doranda area of Ranchi on Tuesday, where a luxury Mercedes car driver struck a woman and then dragged a young man for several kilometers after he attempted to intervene.
The police have detained the driver, identified as Manoj Tandon, a lawyer at the High Court. The incident took place near Rajendra Chowk in Doranda. Reports indicate that the woman sustained injuries from the collision. When a young man present at the scene tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly attempted to run him over. The young man became trapped on the car’s hood, but the driver continued to flee, dragging him along the road for several kilometers.
It is reported that home guard personnel on duty attempted to stop the car, but the driver did not comply. Allegations suggest that the lawyer later took the young man to his residence, where he was also assaulted. Upon receiving the information, the police acted swiftly, pursuing the suspect and rescuing the young man from his location. The lawyer was taken into custody, while the injured youth was sent for medical examination.
Following the incident, a large crowd gathered at the Doranda police station, demanding action against the lawyer. The matter has escalated to the Jharkhand High Court, where the Advocates Association informed the court about the lawyer’s detention and requested protection from the crowd.
During the hearing, Chief Justice M. S. Sonak’s bench stated that no one is above the law and instructed the police to act according to regulations. The court denied immediate relief but directed the state’s Advocate General to coordinate with the police to ensure the lawyer’s safety. The police are currently investigating the case and examining all aspects of the incident.
