Patna, August 8: Shatrughan Sinha, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress and a former actor, met with Lalu Prasad Yadav, the president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, at his residence in Patna on Saturday. The two leaders engaged in a lengthy discussion, sparking various political interpretations in Bihar following their meeting.
After the meeting, Sinha spoke to the media, describing the encounter as purely personal. He highlighted their long-standing friendship, stating that he came to inquire about Lalu and his family’s well-being.
Sinha remarked, “I have a very old friendship with Lalu Ji. He is not just a friend but a family friend. He is a significant leader in the country and a leader of the people. Many consider him a messiah for the poor.”
Wishing for the health and longevity of Lalu Yadav and his wife, Rabri Devi, Sinha expressed that he has always received love and affection from them. He mentioned that he makes it a point to meet Lalu whenever he visits Patna.
The TMC MP revealed that he had a lengthy discussion with Lalu and Rabri on various issues, describing the meeting as very positive. However, he did not get a chance to meet with Lalu’s sons, Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav.
He explained that Tejashwi was away for political work, while Tej Pratap was also out of Patna and expected to return on Sunday. This meeting is considered politically significant, especially after Sinha supported the Jan Suraj Party candidate Prashant Kishor during the Bankipur assembly by-election.
Despite the political implications, Sinha denied linking their conversation to political issues. He emphasized that he would only discuss Lalu Yadav and did not wish to address any other political topics. Sinha concluded by wishing for Lalu Yadav’s good health and long life.
