New Delhi, April 27: The National Capital Region (NCR) is experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 44 degrees Celsius today. The minimum temperature is projected to hover around 27 degrees.
The intense heatwave is likely to disrupt daily life. According to the meteorological department, strong surface winds will prevail during the afternoon, exacerbating the heat conditions. Even in the evening, hot winds are expected to continue. Authorities advise residents to avoid going outdoors during peak hours and to stay hydrated.
However, there is good news on the horizon. A change in weather is anticipated starting April 28, with maximum temperatures expected to drop to 41 degrees and minimum temperatures to 28 degrees. Light rain accompanied by thunder is also forecasted for this day. Similar weather patterns are expected on April 29, with maximum temperatures around 40 degrees and minimums at 26 degrees.
On April 30, partial cloud cover is expected, along with possible light rain and thunder. The temperatures are projected to range from a maximum of 38 degrees to a minimum of 24 degrees. Clear skies are likely on May 1 and 2, but temperatures will remain moderate, with maximums around 40 degrees and minimums between 24 and 25 degrees.
Additionally, air quality in the NCR remains a concern. Several areas have recorded Air Quality Index (AQI) levels ranging from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor.’ In Anand Vihar, the AQI reached 260, while Ashok Vihar recorded 212, Bawana 244, and Burari Crossing 235. In Noida, Knowledge Park-5 had an AQI of 263, and Knowledge Park-3 recorded 197.
The situation is worst in Ghaziabad’s Loni area, where the AQI hit 353, categorizing it as ‘very poor.’ Other areas like Indirapuram, Sanjay Nagar, and Vasundhara reported AQIs of 243, 247, and 244, respectively. Experts warn that the combination of the heatwave and poor air quality could have severe health implications, particularly for the elderly, children, and those with respiratory issues.
