Ujjain / Prayagraj | July 21, 2025 : The sacred month of Sawan continues to witness an overwhelming spiritual fervor across India. On the second Monday of Sawan, lakhs of devotees thronged Shiva temples to offer Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva. In Ujjain, the Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee prepared 80 quintals of laddu prasadi, ensuring abundant distribution for the sea of devotees visiting one of India’s most revered Jyotirlingas.

80 Quintals of Laddu Prasad Ready at Mahakal Temple
In anticipation of the massive influx of devotees on the second Monday of Sawan, the laddu preparation unit operated by the Mahakaleshwar Temple committee produced 80 quintals of laddu prasad by Monday morning. These were distributed through multiple counters located across the temple premises.
The laddu production facility, situated on Chintaman Road, holds a five-star hygiene rating. Each laddu is made under strict quality controls. Chana dal is milled on-site to prepare fresh besan, and pure ghee is sourced directly from the Sanchi Dairy Federation. Branded rawa, premium sugar, and high-quality dry fruits including cashews, raisins, and cardamom are used to maintain taste and purity.
After preparation, the laddus are first offered as Naivedya (holy offering) at Lord Mahakal’s feet before being packed in 100g, 200g, 500g, and 1kg packets and dispatched to retail counters.

Record Sales: ₹1.90 Crore Worth Laddus Sold in 9 Days
Between July 11 to July 19, the temple committee recorded ₹1.90 crore worth of laddu sales, reflecting the tremendous devotion and demand from pilgrims. Notably, on Sawan’s first Monday (July 14), laddus worth ₹26 lakh were sold — the highest ever recorded in a single day.
On regular days, daily sales average 15 quintals. With the spike in demand during Sawan, production and packaging have been scaled up to avoid shortages.

Devotee Rush at Shiva Temples Across Prayagraj
In Prayagraj, the second Monday of Sawan saw unprecedented crowds at temples including Brahmeshwar Mahadev, Nagvasuki, Manakameshwar, Koteshwar, Shivkuti, and Pandeshwar Mahadev. Pilgrims queued up from the early hours to perform Jalabhishek rituals.

A major gathering of Kanwariyas was also witnessed at Dashashwamedh Ghat, where groups collected water before heading towards their respective pilgrimage destinations. The chants of “Bam Bam Bhole” echoed throughout the ghats and city temples.
Tight Security Arrangements in Place
Authorities have deployed heavy police force, water police, and rescue divers at key locations. Drone surveillance is also active to monitor crowds and ensure safety. On the Prayagraj-Varanasi route, the left lane has been closed to heavy vehicles, and traffic police personnel have been stationed at all major junctions for smooth flow.
Additionally, female police officers have been deployed at various Shiva temples to manage the crowd and ensure safety for women devotees.
