Mumbai, March 24: The romantic-comedy film ‘Jab Khuli Kitaab’ is currently streaming on OTT platforms. The movie revolves around an elderly couple who decide to divorce after 50 years of marriage. Directed by Saurabh Shukla, it features Pankaj Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles. The story unravels the unresolved mysteries of their marital life that they had kept hidden for so long.
On Tuesday, Saurabh shared a video from a podcast on his official Instagram stories, revealing how the decision to cast Dimple Kapadia came about.
Saurabh recounted, “One day, my partner Narendra asked me, ‘Sir, have you thought about Dimple Ma’am?’ I was taken aback. I replied, ‘Are you crazy? She is a huge star with an extensive body of work.’”
He explained that at the time, Dimple Kapadia had just returned from filming Christopher Nolan’s Hollywood movie ‘Tenet,’ which made the director apprehensive about approaching her for his film. Saurabh said, “I told Narendra, ‘I can’t approach her. She’s a big star; she won’t read our script or agree to work with us.’” However, Narendra insisted, “No sir, let’s send her the script.”
That same evening, Saurabh sent the script to the actress. He noted, “The day after sending the script, there was no response, but the following day, I received a call from her. She said, ‘I’ve read the script, and no one else can do this role but me.’”
Saurabh Shukla expressed that this was like hitting the jackpot for him. He urged every director to consider working with Dimple Kapadia at least once.
